WHAT KIND OF GROWTH DO WE WANT FOR LUCAN?
For some time now, I’ve been reflecting on what kind of growth we want for Lucan and South Dublin generally. Like many people, I recognise that Ireland has a housing crisis and that we urgently need more homes. The cost of renting and purchasing has to come down in price too, relative to people’s earnings.…
My name is Councillor Helen Farrell, an Independent Local Councillor sitting on South Dublin County Council (SDCC). My role is to bring the voice of Lucan people to the table.
Having lived most of my life in Lucan I believe I have worked to improve life for its residents and visitors with other Lucan residents. 10 years ago, I set up the public campaign @Pool4Lucan with Sandra Whelan, and founded the local history group Society for Old Lucan (SOL) with Elaine Hurley in 2017. It’s been a privilege to meet Lucan people and work with them to achieve positive things for our area. By being an Independent Local Councillor, I can continue this work for constituents.
Areas that I’m particularly interested in include:
- Heritage and Ecology (including Archaeology and Local History)
- Access to Education (including lifelong learning)
- Planning & Development
- Quality of Life for all (that includes making sure people with disabilities are included from the start)
- The Arts
- Gaeilge (Tá beagán Gaeilge agam, agus tá grá agam dí, ach nílim líofa)
